Departing Senior Trade Commissioner and Deputy Consul General of Australia in Hong Kong and Macau, Shannon Powell, delivered a presentation on Wednesday focusing on her eight-year tenure at the Australian Trade and Investment Commission, which included assignments in Chile (2016-2020) and Hong Kong and Macau (2020-2024).
Some 70 participants joined “The Power Hour” luncheon, which was held by the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Macau at the St. Regis Macao hotel.
Relations between Australia and China have improved over the past year, with sanctions lifted before Easter, allowing Australian wines to be exported to China on a significant scale.
Next week, over 100 Australian wine merchants will meet with their counterparts from mainland China to further promote the exquisite wines from South Australia, Victoria, and Western Australia.
During the luncheon event, an attendee inquired if the Australian Trade Commission is hopeful about the possibility of additional restrictions being lifted for exporting lobsters and Australian beef. Shannon Powell expressed optimism, mentioning that the Trade Commission is actively preparing for the much-anticipated official visit of Chinese Premier Li Qiang to Australia, which is seen as a positive development.
